It's Samhain! And ..the Veil is thinning?

As a new Witch, this phrase .. the Veil is thinning, can be confusing, and maybe a bit scary. I am going to attempt to ease your minds, and hopefully help you to understand. I am going to explain things as I was taught by my Elder way back when ..don't ask .. it was a loooong time ago ;)

So let's take first things first.

What is the Veil Anyway?

The Veil is the space between our physical and the spiritual world. The space between us and those who have gone before us, the space between the Universe and Earth, the space between the Underworld and Earth. It is sometimes thought of as a sort of shield that separates our realms .. the Earthly Realm and the Spiritual Realm.

This event begins when our nights begin to get longer and the days shorter. I've always believed that the Veil actually begins to thin in September, just right after Mabon, the Autumn Equinox. Mabon is the time when day and night are equal, and right after, is the beginning of when the nights get longer and days shorter. Some note that the thinning of the Veil begins October 1st, and ends November 14th. Not saying that anyone is wrong, but there are many, many Witches from all over this beautiful world, so maybe the dates are associated with their location, or it may just be their belief. I also believe that most people associate the thinning with October due to Samhain, or as some know it to be Halloween or All Hallows Eve.

Now, just what does all this thinning stuff mean?

For a moment, think about any time when you first began attempting Divination. By Divination, I mean Tarot, Pendulums, Scrying, Candle Flame Reading, Oracle Cards, Runes .. anything you use to receive messages, or direction, from the other realms.

For me, I had a tough time connecting .. with anyone! I had to practice and practice until finally, I was able to connect with spirits. During any other time of the year, other than October, it can sometimes be difficult to connect, to communicate, or to receive messages, especially when you are new to Divination. This is due to the veil being intact, and it literally acts as a shield. It keeps the realms separated and protects us from the spirit realm.

Why do we need to be protected?

Think about it. If there were never a "shield", the Veil keeping things separated, just how many spirits, either bad or good, would roam at will at any time they saw fit.

This is probably the main reason so many people feel "off", or elevated at this time .. especially for a Witch. Besides the fact that Samhain is approaching!! LOL

Most Witches I know are Empaths, and some of them are extreme Empaths. Spirits, Entities, Gods, Goddesses, and everything else in other realms have energies that they omit, and we feel those energies more and more as the Veil gets thinner. If you know how to protect yourself from these energies, put a barrier around you, the thinning of the Veil won't affect you as much, or at all.

Now for the Good News!

This is the PERFECT time to connect!!! If you have been trying to reach someone through Divination, Meditation, Dreams, etc., now is a great time to do so. The thinning of the Veil allows us to more easily connect with those we want to connect with. There isn't anything separating you from them.

Do you want to reach long ago Ancestors? Talk to a loved one that has passed? Do you want answers, knowledge or direction from a Spirit Guide, God or Goddess?

Now is the time that will be the easiest .. for all of us :)

Think about it like this ~ If whomever, or whatever you want to connect with can no longer be seen with our human, waking eyes, they are in a realm where they can now be reached, and this time of year bring the greatest opportunity to do so.

Warning!!

Some entities and Spirits can be very cunning creatures. Be sure, not just at this time of year, but at any time, that you are actually connecting to and communicating to the one that you want. Your intuition will guide you and will definitely let you know if you are being dooped, or misguided.

Always be respectful, be sure to close or end any sessions immediately when you are finished, and if you feel you should .. leave an offering. We don't get visits or chances like this but once a year. ;)

As the saying goes, If at first you don't succeed, try and try again.

This goes especially if you are new to learning how to communicate through Divination, Meditation or other technique. It takes practice and concentration. Keep it up, you will get it!
